About the Book
"My name is Patra, and I’m six years old. I live in a nightmare that lasted for as long as I can remember. I live in a beautiful southern town where people are friendly and the days are long, hot and lazy. My home in Jackson, Mississippi looks like most middle class houses in the south in the 1950s. With swayin’ trees in the summer breeze, emerald green yards and flowers blooming everywhere. Heavy scents from the magnolias and sweet olive bushes constantly fill the air. But my story inside the house is not a happy one. I am small for my age with long dark brown hair that hangs in curls to my waist. Big blue eyes, long eyelashes, and a perfect oval face complete a look my eleven year old sister hates with a vengeance. My sister Angela is pretty, but everyone says she can’t compare to little Patra. Angela was the baby and the apple of everyone’s eye until I was born when she was five and a half years old, then everything changed for her. I became the enemy the day I was born."
